Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin React To Jennifer Aniston’s '9 to 5' Remake

Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda recently shared their thoughts on Jennifer Aniston producing a 9 to 5 remake.

The silver screen standouts spoke with Entertainment Tonight at the ERA Coalition's special screening of 2022 documentary film Still Working 9 to 5 on Wednesday (May 29) to discuss their feelings on the upcoming remake of the iconic 1980 film, and to detail the importance of publishing the Equal Rights Amendment once and for all.

Speaking on the remake, currently being developed by Aniston, her production company Echo Films, and script writer Diablo Cody, Fonda wished everyone involved nothing but luck on their quest to reimagine the classic film.

"Good luck to them. It's fun. I wish them a lot of luck. They're very talented." Tomlin is also excited about the remake and hopes that the project is successful.

"Oh, I'm very excited. I'm pleased to know that someone else is working on it and may they have successful fruition."

In the original film, Fonda, Tomlin, and Dolly Parton (who created her timeless hit "9 to 5" specifically for the film) team up to get rid of their sexist boss that continues to cause them grief at the office.

Fonda mentioned how fitting it was to be discussing the remake at the ERA Coalition's screening of Still Working 9 to 5, because the entire theme of the film, documentary, and coalition is centered around the Equal Rights Amendment (defined as "a proposed amendment to the constitution that would guarantee equal rights to all United States citizens regardless of their sex," per ET).

"We have to have the ERA. It's been ratified. It's been 100 years since it was first introduced to Congress. Congress has passed it, but it's not been published. It's like right at the doorstep and it just needs a little push. So we're going to try."

A trailer and possible release date for the reimagined 9 to 5 film has yet to be revealed.
