The Sean Baker-directed tragicomedy Anora has won the Cannes Film Festival's top award, the Palme d'Or.
The film tells the story of a sex worker from Brooklyn who marries the son of a wealthy Russian oligarch.
Flicks.co.nz editor Steve Newall says the film has been considered as a send-up of Pretty Woman.
