Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning.
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is to choose a recipe of the year. Pick
one recipe that you'd like to get really confident and
(00:24):
efficient at this year, and lean into making it whenever
you can. Longtime listeners may have heard me mention my
sister in law's roles they are delicious and anytime we
have an extended family dinner, I know she will be
bringing them. You may also have heard that my Best
(00:46):
of Both World's co hosts, Sarah Hart Hunger makes a
fabulous key lime pie. She makes that pie anytime she
is asked to take a dessert to get together. Have
a go to recipe like rolls for my sister in
law or Keelam pie for Sarah. If not, this could
(01:09):
be the year to find one. Maybe your friends and
family will start to look forward to the dish too,
just as people look forward to those rolls and the
Keilam pie. To choose such a recipe, think back to
when you have needed to produce something a little special.
Maybe it's a dessert to take to dinner parties, or
(01:29):
an app to serve when you have people over or
a suite to send for bake sales at your kids' school,
you might consider a recipe you have made once or
twice and liked mostly but want to tweak or at
least get better at. When you decide on a recipe
of the year, you want to make it often enough
(01:49):
that you come to know exactly how long it is
going to take. You'll know exactly what you need and
what serving pieces tend to show it off the best.
Depending on what's required. You might even keep the ingredients
on hand so you can make this dish without a
special trip to the grocery store. Perhaps you can even
(02:10):
memorize the recipe. Then this becomes a real no brainer.
Try this recipe out then whenever you can. Maybe you
could even invent an occasion. I don't think anyone will
complain about having key lime pie on a Friday night
just because if something seems a bit off. Tweak something
(02:33):
like how long this thing is in the oven, or
maybe even the particular tools you are using. I can
tell you that my sister in law uses particular baking
sheets for her rolls. If she is baking her rolls
in my oven, she brings her own baking sheets. That's
because she knows exactly how the rolls will turn out
(02:56):
when she uses those sheets. That is the kind of
familiarity we are talking about. Do this often enough and
perhaps this will become your go to recipe forever. But
that said, if you do get a little bored with it,
that's why I'm calling this episode the recipe of the Year.
You can make this recipe ten times this year and
(03:18):
then move on to something else next year. But either way,
you won't feel stuck. When someone tells you to bring
an appetizer with any look, people will start asking for
your famous dish specifically. In the meantime, this is Laura.
