Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning,
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is to choose your alarm sound. There are plenty
of irritating sounds in the world that you can't control,
(00:25):
but for those you can best to choose something more pleasant.
A lot of people who are intentional about their time
use timers to tell them when to wrap up an activity.
A timer can be helpful or floyd, letting you know,
for instance, that you have spent your allotted thirty minutes
for editing a document and now you need to finalize
(00:48):
it and submit it. A timer can let you know
that you have done a twenty five minute Pomodoro style
sprint of work, and you are free to get a
cup of coffee if you need one, and even if
you are not ten years old, it may be helpful
to use a timer to monitor your screen time so
you don't spend more time scrolling than you intended. So.
(01:12):
I am a big fan of setting alarms. However, many
alarm sounds can be quite jarring. Think the shot clock
at a basketball game. If you have set an alarm
so you can focus on your client until you absolutely
have to leave the meeting, a series of annoying beeps
might not reinforce your calm vibe. Same with ring tones.
(01:35):
There's no reason that a marimba needs to let you
know that you have a phone call, unless that is
your preference. The good news is that this is entirely
within your power to change your phone's default. Alarm is
not the only sound out there. There are lots of
other sounds that are readily available, including everything from real
(01:56):
music to church bells to something that might make you
feel like you are in a so ba. Chimes on
iPhone is a great choice for providing a gentle sound,
but there are lots of options. So the next time
you find yourself with a little time on your hands
and headphones if you're in a public place, explore the
various timers, alarms, and ring tones that your phone offers.
(02:20):
Choose ones that fit the moods you are going for. Personally,
I like something more soft and relaxed, but this is
up to you. And the upside of having something different
from lots of other people is that when the phone rings,
you do know it is for you or not for you.
Yours is not the exact same default sound as everyone
(02:42):
else who has the same device. There is a lot
in the world we can't control, but some things we can.
Your personal soundscape is one of them. So take a
moment to actively choose your alarm sound today. In the meantime,
