Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of I Heart Radio.
Good Morning, This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast.
Today's tip is to try not to miss twice. Good
habits can be tough to form, but maintaining them is
an even bigger challenge. We all fall into traps that

(00:26):
prevent us from making progress. One common one. If you
slip up and miss a day, all of your progress
is somehow ruined or less valuable. You're a failure. So
why try? What's the point? But, of course this stark
thinking is ridiculous. Six days of healthy eating is great,

(00:48):
even if the seventh featured a lot of cheesecake. Two
weeks of walking every day don't suddenly disappear just because
you got really busy. Instead, try a different rule. Don't
miss twice. If you sleep in and skip your morning run,
for example, well, no big deal. Forgive yourself immediately, don't

(01:11):
sweat it, but then do everything possible to make sure
you don't miss the next day. You keep the momentum
of a good habit going while giving yourself grace for
the times when life doesn't go as planned. Of course,
planning can still help if you find yourself missing a
lot of days. Well, maybe you need to think about

(01:33):
your new habit and what you need to put into
place to make sure you're only occasionally missing a day.
Maybe you need to go to bed earlier. Maybe you
need to move your alarm clock farther away so the
snooze button is less tempting. The never missed twice rule
doesn't mean you get a free pass every other day,

(01:53):
but it does help you make a pattern of progress.
It allows you to focus on building a meaningful it
rather than obsessing about slip ups. And when you do
miss a day, it helps you mobilize all your efforts
towards not missing the next time. Keeping a street going
is fun, it can be really motivating, but consistency is

(02:16):
far more important than perfection. If you make a point
of never missing twice, you'll build the foundation for long
term success. In the meantime, this is Laura. Thanks for listening,
and here's to making the most of our time. Hey, everybody,
