Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning.
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is that you can do most things at whatever
time you wish. Yes, there may be conventions, but if
(00:24):
those conventions don't make sense for the most part, it's
not a big deal. So there is a coffee shop
in New York that has a sign in the window
reading it's nine o'clock somewhere. I'm assuming they're playing with
the saying it's five o'clock somewhere used to justify enjoying
alcohol before the traditional cocktail hour. Well, I'm not sure
(00:47):
about the wisdom of having a beer at nine am
on a random Tuesday. For most of us, there may
be some people for whom that's right. When I went
out for breakfast near a ski resort once, I noted
a number of gentlemen at the bar, bright and early.
It turned out these were the mechanics and trail maintainers
and such who'd worked on the ski lifts and slopes
(01:09):
overnight so they'd be ready at opening time. To them,
nine am was the end of their shift, just like
five o'clock would be for anyone else if they wanted
a beer with friends before going home to bed, why not? Likewise,
if you want coffee at lunch or early afternoon, go
for it. Within reason, You can generally do what you
(01:32):
want when you want. It doesn't really matter what people
say is supposed to happen. When want to decorate for
Christmas in mid October? Fine, want to put on a
fancy dress to go out to eat at a diner?
Why not? Do you have the perfect gift idea for
your mom and don't want to wait till Mother's Day?
Give it to her now and wish her a happy Monday?
(01:54):
Want leftover pad tie for breakfast and eggs for lunch?
Sure white after Labor Day? Does anyone even notice anymore?
There are lots of rules for what we are supposed
to do when, and some of these might be helpful,
but some just may not serve you well. If so,
you can let them go. And honestly, it can sometimes
(02:16):
be a little fun to flout time conventions. The beach
town I visit each summer puts on a giant Christmas
pageant in August. People like Christmas, they like singing Christmas carols,
and there are certainly more people in the Beachtown in
August than in December, so why not. I love eating
breakfast for dinner for similar reasons. Now, to be sure,
(02:40):
there is no reason to flout convention stupidly. I am
not going to have a giant cup of coffee at
ten pm unless I am deliberately trying to stay up
all night. And since I am not repairing a ski
lift as my job, I am generally not. But it
is always morning somewhere. If you like your jeans in December,
(03:02):
wear them in the meantime. This is Laura. Thanks for listening,
and here's to making the most of our time. Thanks
for listening to Before Breakfast. If you've got questions, ideas,
