Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning,
This is Laura.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Today's tip is that creating a full and wonderful life
takes work. Good things can magically land in our laps,
but they often don't, so there is no point begrudging
the time it takes to create fun experiences or enjoy
other people.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Best to just repeat this phrase, life is worth the bother.
You will be able to enjoy the life that bother
creates a whole lot more. Longtime listeners have often heard
me say that people are a good use of time.
No matter how busy you are, you are probably not

(00:59):
going to regret having gone to a family friend's birthday party,
or spending an hour catching up with your college roommates
by phone, or going out to dinner with your spouse.
In the abstract, we can all appreciate that where people
get tripped up, though, is with the time and effort
it takes to make experiences like these happen. Getting to

(01:23):
the family friend's party may take an hour or more
of travel time, Arranging a single group call for four
people requires twenty texts to the group thread, and going
out with your spouse means getting a babysitter and arranging
a reservation and dealing with the fact that there's traffic

(01:43):
and that it's hard to park and it's raining, and
you can see where this is going. Life can be
a real bother sometimes, but so what life is worth
the bother? Twenty texts to have a beautiful group call
is a good investment. Bring an umbrella and you know

(02:05):
you will be in that warm restaurant eventually. Don't let
the time and effort required to see your friends and
family keep you from getting together. I mean, after all,
what are we saving our energy for. I don't picture
most of us getting to the end of our lives
and thinking, well, thank goodness, I didn't do anything. What

(02:29):
a pain that would have been. People are worth the
bother and fun is worth the bother too. If you
want to have more fun in your life, you are
going to have to invest time and effort in making
it happen. Want to do a painting class, That means
finding a class, registering, buying the supplies, and getting yourself

(02:54):
there even if it's rainy or cold. Maybe you keep
thinking it would be fun to go canoeing, but then
that means figuring out where you can rent a canoe
and how to get there, and where you can park,
and if they take credit cards, And it is enough
to make you think twice.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
But if you do want to do something, most likely
you'll be happy to have done it.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
You just have to get through a little bother to
make it happen. So keep repeating this phrase to yourself.
Life is worth the bother. There is no reason to
let a little time and effort deter you from something
that sounds like fun, or from enjoying your relationships. These

(03:41):
are the things that make.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
A good life, so it is worth making them happen.
In the meantime, this is Laura. Thanks for listening, and
here's to making the most of our time. Thanks for
