Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of I Heart Radio.
Good Morning. This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast.
Today's tip is to sleep in your gym clothes, or
at least put them on when you are still sleepy
first thing in the morning. If you find it challenging

(00:26):
to get motivated, reducing this one barrier to exercise can
make a big difference. I hear from a lot of
people about how they use their time and what they'd
like to do more of if they could find the time.
Exercise tends to top this list. People say they would

(00:47):
love to exercise more if only they could fit it
into their schedules. I have explored this excuse a bit, because, well,
we have a hundred sixty eight hours in a week.
An exercise rising for thirty minutes, four times a week
brings us to a grand total of two hours. Now,
that certainly seems doable, But it's not just the exercise time.

(01:11):
People then elaborate, but also the changing and sometimes a
second shower, and then making themselves presentable afterwards. A short
twenty minute workout no longer seems worth it if you'll
more than double that time in transaction costs. The best
way to avoid that barrier is to make sure that
you are only showering once and maybe only changing once.

(01:37):
Many people find that first thing in the morning is
the best time to exercise. You start your day with
a boost of energy and a sense of accomplishment. Then
you shower and you're on your way to work or
wherever your day takes You. No need to find time
in your busy schedule for exercise because you've already done it.

(01:59):
No need to take a second shower. But if early
morning exercise doesn't work for you, you don't need to
give up on the habit altogether. Instead, try skipping the
morning shower and starting the day in your gym clothes. Anyway,
remote work is on the rise, and if you are

(02:19):
working from home, there is no reason you can't go
to your home office in athletic attire. Exercise when it
fits in your schedule, and shower on your lunch break
or even right after your work day ends. You add
exercise to your day without having to invest time in
an extra shower. If you have a video call, just

(02:41):
put a nice shirt on over your exercise top. Ladies
could perhaps add a little mascara and lipstick if that's
your thing, put long hair in a sleek ponytail, and
all is good. Looking professional on a video call is
a flexible concept, particularly with the colleagues you every day.

(03:02):
Use judgment here. Maybe not on the day you're presenting
to your company's CEO or biggest client, but when you've
just got your standard Thursday morning team check in and
a call with accounting. I mean, why not By putting
on exercise clothes first thing in the morning, or even
sleeping in your gym clothes, you lower the time investment

(03:25):
required for exercising. No extra time is needed to head
out the door for a run or hop on the treadmill. Plus,
being in your gym clothes feels like a commitment to exercising.
You'll think twice before you turn on Netflix on your
lunch break if you're wearing running clothes, because given that
you are in your running clothes, wouldn't it be better

(03:46):
to go for a quick run instead. The big idea
here is to find solutions, not excuses. If you truly
want to exercise more but don't want to shower to ice,
then don't shower until you've exercised. Indeed, even if it
is truly impossible for you to start the day and

(04:08):
gym close. You can still skip the first shower. Just
consider your post exercise shower as the shower for the
day whenever it happens. There is no rule that you
have to shower in the morning, even if you work
in a traditional office. Just wash your face, damp in

(04:30):
your hair if you need to, tame any BedHead, and
get dressed when you know. You'll shower after you exercise.
There is no need to shower when you wake up.
If you try starting the day in gym clothes or
sleeping in your gym clothes, let me know how it goes.
