This is Laura. Welcome to the New Corner Office, the
podcast where we share strategies for thriving in the new

(01:29):
world of work, where location and ours are more flexible
than in the past. Today's tip is to recognize that
Monday isn't the only day of the week. When we
pace ourselves and look at the whole week, we can
feel less busy and get more time. Now. I know

(01:49):
that a lot of New Corner Office listeners love to plan,
me too. Hopefully you're even planning on my favorite planning day, Friday,
so you can hit Monday morning ready to go. If so,
that's wonderful. But I know that I sometimes fall into
a trap as I plan ahead. I over plan for Monday,

(02:11):
aiming to get as many of my priorities for the
week done as possible, and that can make Monday feel
like a bit of a slog. And that's too bad,
because Mondays are rough as it is, and they aren't
the only day of the week. Most likely you will
work on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday too, and given

(02:35):
that you plan to work on those days, it's wisest
to pace yourself to allocate your priorities over several days
of the week. So, for instance, I'll often write my
podcast scripts for the week on Mondays, record them on Tuesdays,
write a column I do on Wednesdays, and record my
best of Both Worlds podcast with my co host on Thursdays.

(02:56):
Sometimes I get ahead of myself and think, oh, I
should write and chord on Mondays, but then inevitably I
get tired and can't get to it, or something comes up,
and I really dislike not getting to everything on my
to do list for a day. It makes me feel overwhelmed,
and that's silly, because there's no reason it had to

(03:17):
all get done on Monday. There is plenty of time
on the other days too well. At least usually I
do know that emergencies happen, kids can get sick, or
childcare arrangements can fall through, and so it is tempting
to try to cram as much as I can into
a day that I know is available for work, and

(03:40):
if I'm already working on Monday will time to make
hay while the sun shines. Perhaps you are working under
these constraints too, But I have also found that I
rarely get zero time the rest of the week. Even
on a rough day, it's possible to do one big thing.
I'll get sub window of time while kids are watching

(04:01):
a movie, or the little ones are napping, or my
husband can cover. I won't get nothing done. And I
also tried to build a resilient schedule by leaving Friday open.
That way, an extra day is available in case stuff
comes up or if I haven't finished anything from the
other days. Mondays should feel challenging, but they should also

(04:25):
feel doable. By planning the whole week and allocating priorities
more equally on different days, you can actually finish stuff.
Progress is motivational. It makes us want to keep going.
You can win the week by recognizing that Monday isn't

(04:45):
the only day. It's an important day for sure, but
not the only one available. Think full but not crammed.
You'll feel less busy, and ultimately you'll get more done
in the meantime. This is Laura, Thanks for listening, and
here's to succeeding in the new Corner Office. The New
