How often are you kicking yourself because you said “Yes” to something when you didn’t have the time or backed down and agreed to one of your ex’s requests because you just wanted to avoid the conflict?

Being a victim of domestic violence and narcissistic abuse will lead to fawning or people-pleasing behaviors as a way to maintain safety and the idea of control and calm. People pleasing was a skill that kept you safe but it is something that you do not want to continue forever.

In this episode we are going to discuss how people-pleasing develops and some strategies to become more empowered, find love and acceptance for yourself, and learn to set some compassionate boundaries.  

My guest, Anita Sandoval, LPCS shares her experience of generational trauma and abuse that led her to people-please and stay in an abusive relationship.  We discuss how modeling of behaviors and what is accepted is passed down through generations and how difficult it is to break these cycles.  

Anita's Bio:
I'm Anita Sandoval, a licensed professional counselor Supervisor and EMDR certified with over 14 years of experience and  the author of 'Broken Chains,' and the host of 'Empowering Women in Conversations' podcast.
 
With over 13 years of dedicated practice as a licensed professional counselor at Positive Awakenings Counseling Center.
 
In addition to my writing, I'm also the host of 'Empowering Women in Conversations,' a podcast where we dive into meaningful discussions that aim to uplift and empower women from all walks of life.

My own path to becoming a licensed professional counselor is deeply rooted in a story of transformation. As a third-generation survivor of abuse and neglect, I know firsthand the challenges and pain that such cycles can perpetuate. However, my determination to break this cycle and become a woman empowered was unwavering.

Through years of personal growth, therapy, and self-discovery, I found the strength to rewrite my narrative. I realized that I could use my experiences to not only heal but also to help others do the same.
