Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're own with the cardock. You're not going to help.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Yes, good afternoon, Ron. You have a terrific show, and
I wanted to just take a moment to commend Harry
for his outstanding help and support for the show, and
also for arranging my call with you today.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
He wanted he slipped your five bucks, didn't He never?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
But he's terrific and you are too.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
My wife and I have had a number of Volvos
over the years and currently have a nineteen ninety one
and ninety three Volvos, and we just wanted to see
if you might have any thoughts or special suggestions on
finding an accomplished Volvo mechanic.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
What model, what model early nineties do you have, Larry.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Great, We've got a nineteen ninety one seven forty and
a nineteen ninety three two forty, relatively low miles on
each of them, and in the Tampa Bay, Florida area
that includes Tampa Saint Petersburg in kind of a fifty
mile radius, the dealerships have proved to be extraordinarily expensive
and really with not terrifically good or reliable service to
(00:59):
local independent mechanics that we'd work with have each retired,
and we just wanted to see if you might have
any suggestions on how to find maybe a moonlighting certified
Volvo mechanic or a really well trained Volvo mechanic.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Great questions, and you're correct, because cars of that caliber
you need somebody from Sweden almost is how I look
at it. My love affair for Volvos began when we
started purchasing them and running them through the family, and
the more we drove, the more I learned, and the
more I decided what a great car they were. Somewhere
around nineteen ninety five, I think Volvo sort of fell
(01:37):
off the wagon and they fell into a state of
disarray that I think continues even more so today. But
that's a different conversation. I think if I was looking
for a Volvo mechanic, I'd do it a couple of
different ways. There's a website that as an automotive professional,
I belonged to and I'm allowed access into the site.
But I believe there is a consumer side as well,
(01:59):
a TN dot net, and I believe you can get
out to I atn dot net. There is a consumer
site where you can search in your area of the
of the country for a repair shop specifically looking for
your make model, that type of.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Thing, and that would be like India Alpha Tango, Nancy.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Correct, I eate International Automotive Technicians Network, and the idea
being that and listen. Just because they're there doesn't make
them gospel or good guys. It just means that they've
signed up. But it gives you the opportunity to read
what people are saying about them or what they say
about themselves, and then you know, google it and search
it in your neighborhood. At least it's the direction. The
(02:41):
second way I would approach this is to take a
look at the alleged shops that can work on Volvos.
What's in their parking lot? If the guy's got Ford,
Chevy and Chrysler's in there, I don't think the guy
speaks Volvo. I don't think he's I don't think he
speaks Swedish. I just don't because those two particular model Volvos,
the seven forties and the two forties, are very particular
(03:02):
and very very unique to you know, they're just different animals,
they really are.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
So.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
But anyway, I tell you what, Larry, hang on one second,
I've got to pull over and take a quick pause
and then we'll come back. I'm running Indie in the
card doctor. We're back right after this. Hey, it's me
(03:45):
running any in the car doctor at a five five
five six on nine nine zero zero. We're talking to
Larry and Tampa, Florida. Larry, you're still there.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Sir, absolutely on just one quick following up by your suggestions, Yes, excellent.
Is there any hinder suggestion you've ever heard anyone mentioned
on how to find a moonlighting Volvo mechanic someone that
does work on the side.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
One of the ways you may be able to find it.
And it's a little difficult in this case because Volvo's
in my eyes, if you're doing a Volvo properly, you're
using an original equipment like kind, part and material. Now,
you know, once in a while, I'll say that you'll
find that kind of person hanging around at the local
autoparts store. So go in and talk to your autoparts stores. Say, listen,
I've got a Volvo. I'm looking for somebody that speaks Volvo.
(04:29):
And I would say it just like that, who do
you recommend? Auto parts stores are kind of like this,
you know, the secret center in every town. They know
who the good shops are, they know who the bad
shops are. They know who the shops are that really
diagnose and repair, and they know who the shops are
that are buying parts and then sending them back with
greasy fingerprints on them saying, yeah, we never tried it,
it's no good, we didn't need it, or some other
(04:51):
kakamami excuse. But it's really it's really a bad part.
Auto parts stores know really what's going on, so I
would tell you to start there and see what that
does for you. All right, sir, on.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
The suggestions are terrific. Keep up the phenomenal show, and
thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
You're very welcome, Larry, thanks for calling in. And I
want to point out there's more card doctor and after
the news at the top of the hour, and most
of these affiliates till the next time. The mechanics aren't expensive,
they're priceless.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
See you
