The Real Reason Jill Duggar Only Cooks With Canned Foods

Jill Duggar faces her share of shaming when it comes to how she parents, but she's also gotten a lot of flak for how she cooks. Fans of the former Counting On star know that she rarely has any fresh produce in her house, instead preferring to use canned fruits and vegetables in her recipes. Well an old clip from 19 Kids And Counting, the reality series that gave Jill her start, has shined a little light onto Jill's cooking style.

The video shows her younger sister, Jessa, giving a tour of the family's pantry, which is the size of a small grocery store since it has to have enough items in it to feed a family of 21. It shows shelf after shelf of canned goods, and freezers full of frozen foods, all of which were bought in bulk to help the giant family cut down on costs. Jessa also explains, "We start off cooking at a very young age. My mom always has us in the kitchen as little boys and girls just helping her out, and then as we get older we actually take on the responsibility of doing whole meals ourselves."

If you think about what Jessa said, it makes sense that Jill might just be using the canned fruits and veggies because that's what she was taught to do and for now, that's all she knows. All of her favorite family recipes are likely made with canned ingredients, and those are the ones she remembers best.

Even though it seems Jill is a huge fan of canned foods, many recipes on her website feature fresher ingredients, so hopefully she is branching out. You can see all of her recipes here
