A Middle Tennessee box truck driver was arrested after playing audio "similar to the audio heard" prior to the Christmas bombing in downtown Nashville in a neighboring county.
James Turgeon, 33, of Holly Grove Road near Murfreesboro, was charged with two counts of felony filing a false report and one count of tampering with evidence, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office announced on Facebook Sunday (December 27) night.
RCSO responded to a call of a box truck driver, identified as Turgeon, playing loud audio outside the Crossroads Market in Walter Hill, which was heard by customers and nearby church members.
“During the course of the investigation, it was revealed Turgeon made a similar announcement at Kings Chapel Independent Missionary Baptist Church at Jefferson Pike and Dunaway Chapel Road while church was in service,” said RCSO Detective Sgt. Steve Craig.
Turgeon was stopped by sheriff's deputies from Rutherford and Wilson counties, both of which neighbor Davidson County, while driving in Wilson County and he was detained for questioning. Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Bill Miller said the agency used a robot to check the truck Turgeon was driving and "no device was detected."
Sgt. Craig said detectives discovered Turgeon allegedly damaged the speaker system wiring intentionally, which resulted in a tampering with evidence charge.
Last week, an individual, later identified as Anthony Quinn Warner, 63, detonated a bomb inside an RV parked on Second Avenue North, which resulted in his death and injuries to five others, as well as a path of destruction in the downtown area and AT&T outages in several states.
Turgeon is being held at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
