Memphis Bleek is convinced that JAY-Z is back in the studio working on new music.
On Friday, August 15, Drink Champs dropped part one of their conversation with Bleek. In it, the Brooklyn native, who has collaborated with Hov several times in the past, recalled his recent run-in with the Roc Nation co-founder at Beyoncé's final stop of her "Cowboy Carter Tour" in Las Vegas.
“I just was with him in Vegas," he told N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. "He just came out on the show, like, yo, my n***a, they went stupid.. I said, ‘Listen, I know you working. Save me a verse.’ He’s like, ‘Alright, I got you.’ So if it happens, it happens.”
JAY-Z and Memphis Bleek go way back. The former Roc-a-Fella Records signee first collaborated with Hov on the Grammy Award-winning artist's debut album Reasonable Doubt. It's been 20 years since they last reunited on Bleek's "Dear Summer" off his 534 album, so they're long overdue for another banger. However, it's also been a minute since Hov himself dropped a solo album.
It's been eight years since JAY-Z released his last album, 4:44. Since then, he appeared on The Lion King: The Gift album with his wife Beyoncé and hopped on DJ Khaled's "God Did," which earned five Grammy nominations in 2022. Last year, Hov reemerged once again for The Book of Clarence soundtrack, where he joined forces with Jeymes Samuel and D'Angelo on "I Want You Forever."
Hov has yet to confirm that he's working on new music, but the streets is watching now, thanks to Bleek. Watch Memphis Bleek's sit-down with Drink Champs below and check out his new podcast ROC Solid now.
