Biography
Formed by David Lowery after the breakup of college rock cult heroes Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker operate with a leaner, more tightly focused version of CVB's stylistic eclecticism, adding a healthy portion of guitar-based alternative rock, and throwing in some country twang and an edgy sense of humor for seasoning. The resulting irreverent, buzzworthy anthems have appealed to a mass audience in a way that Camper Van Beethoven didn't, and the unexpected success of their 1992 debut album led to 1993's Kerosene Hat, which scored an alternative rock hit in "Low."
