When We Were Young is a nostalgia festival, but Green Day used it as a platform to debut new music over the weekend. During their headlining set, the trio treated fans to a performance of their upcoming single "The American Dream Is Killing Me" and a brand new song called "Look Ma, No Brains."
"The American Dream Is Killing Me" is set to officially drop on Tuesday (October 24). The band hasn't mentioned when fans can expect a recorded version of "Look Ma, No Brains," but you can watch fan-shot footage of them live-debuting it above.
Before the festival, Green Day surprised fans with a "not so top secret" show at the 1,000-capacity Fremont Country Club in Las Vegas. During that set, they let the crowd in on what really was a secret: they're planning a tour with Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas in 2024.
Green Day's last album was 2020's Father of all Motherf***ers. They've spent the years since on the Hella Mega tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy and released three stand alone singles in 2021: "Here Comes The Shock," "Pollyanna," and "Holy Toledo."
“Whether we do a full-length album or an EP or just a song, we have a lot of different options. It’s a matter of whenever the right moment happens,” Billie Joe Armstrong explained at the time. “That’s the beauty of the way you can put music out these days. You don’t have to wait for any gatekeeper to tell you that the timing is right.”
