The parents of the 15-year-old suspect of the Oxford High School shooting have been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald announced on Friday (December 3) that James Crumbley and Jennifer Crumbley — parents of Ethan Crumbley, a sophomore at the high school — will each face four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the deadly incident. The investigation remains ongoing, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office stated Friday.
Ethan Crumbley was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Charged as an adult, he faces one count of terrorism causing death, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, and 12 counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Four students were killed in the tragedy: Justin Shilling, 17, Tate Myre, 16, Hanna St. Juliana, 14, and Madisyn Baldwin, 17. Several others — including one teacher — were transported to local hospitals to be treated for gunshot wounds.
Authorities have confirmed that Crumbley allegedly used a 9mm Sig Sauer, which his father reportedly bought four days before the deadly shooting. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard confirmed in a press conference Thursday that James Crumbley apparently purchased the weapon legally at a local shop.
Ethan Crumbley reportedly recorded several cryptic videos on his cell phone before the shooting, apparently detailing his plans to “deliberately murder as many students as he could that day,” according to investigators. Officials also reviewed surveillance footage from inside the school, showing the accused shooter lurking the halls.
Bouchard previously expressed in a statement: “My heart aches for families that will never be the same and a quiet sweet community that had its innocence shattered.”
