Drake and 21 Savage are still teasing their fans with their parody press run.
On Monday, November 7, the Her Loss MCs posted a video of them performing their new song "Privileged Rappers" in a similar format as the popular ColorsxStudios series. Drake and 21 walk into the room with gold walls and go up to a mic that hangs from the ceiling. Its the first "live" performance the duo have done since they released their joint album last week. Once it hit streaming services, both rappers received plenty of backlash for some of the shady lyrics about several artists.
The performance is just the latest piece of the their faux press run. Since they announced the album's title in Drake's "Jimmy Cooks" video, Drizzy and the Slaughter Gang leader have been giving their fans the illusion of major placements in Vogue, NPR's Tiny Desk and others. While their fake promotional posts have garnered plenty of attention, their marketing strategy could result in a legal nightmare.
According to a report TMZ posted earlier today, Vogue magazine has sued both Drake and 21 Savage for circulating images of themselves on the cover. Condé Nast, who owns Vogue, claimed that the magazine nor Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour "have not endorsed the album in any way." The company also claimed that they repeatedly requested for the promos to be removed, but nothing was done about it. As of press time, Drake still has the faux covers posted on his Instagram account.
A source close to Drake's team says they're shocked by the lawsuit since other outlets like NPR and the Howard Stern Show were down with the idea and ran with it. Neither artist has issued a formal statement about it yet.
