Taylor Swift can be defined by two things in this world: her music and her love of cats.
So, obviously, when she was cast in the film adaptation of the renowned musical CATS, good things were going to come from it.
The 29-year-old revealed on Thursday (October 24) that she had the honor to write the only original song called “Beautiful Ghosts” for the upcoming film with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. “There was an ambition and an aspiration to have an original song in the movie,” Swift said. “Just very much this understanding of like let's write the best song we can.”
In the video the “Lover” singer posted to Twitter, it's revealed the song came about very organically and suddenly. When she met up with Webber, they didn't plan out writing a new song until he played the instrumental aspect on piano. Being the incredible songwriter she is, Swift came up with lyrics on the spot. “When you [Webber] started playing the music, it was just this beautiful haunting melody,” Swift said.
While the song is performed by Francesca Hayward who plays “Victoria,” fans can hear Swift sing the haunting track as well. “I sing the studio recording of the song,” she said; which will appear at the end credits.
But if you can't wait until CATS is released on December 20, you can hear a snippet of Swift singing “Beautiful Ghosts” in the video above!
Taylor Swift is performing at this year's iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in New York City, alongside a star-studded lineup.
