Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have welcomed their first child together. Buckingham Palace announced the Duchess of Sussex was in labor on Monday (May 6), over a week after Meghan's reported due date. Shortly after announcing the Duchess went into labor, the new parents announced Baby Sussex's arrival. It's a boy for Meghan and Harry!

"We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz," the palace wrote in a statement on Instagram. "The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first shared they were expecting the next royal baby back in October. The parents-to-be announced the happy news via Kensington Palace: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019."

While Meghan and Harry made numerous official appearances for their royal duties over the course of the Duchess's pregnancy, they remained tight-lipped about the details surrounding Baby Sussex's due date. Though some British tabloids and royal-watchers were upset by their choice to pass on the public post-birth photo opp on the steps of the Lindo Wing, Meghan and Harry reportedly wish to live a more private life with their new family. Their move to Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle, located about 25 miles outside of London, is an attempt to raise their child outside the "fishbowl" of royal life at Kensington Palace.

Meghan and Harry's child is now seventh in line for the British throne. While it's currently unclear whether Baby Sussex will have dual U.K.-U.S. citizenship - Meghan is still an American citizen and has not yet become a U.K. citizen, either - this is certainly the closest an American has come to throne. Another fun fact about the newest addition to the royal family: Baby Sussex is the fourth living royal to be born during Taurus season.

Congratulations on your bundle of joy, Meghan and Harry!
