Another $1,400 Stimulus Check Will Go To Some Women Who Are Now Pregnant

This week, millions of Americans received their third stimulus check (though many still need to be sent out). As part of the latest relief package, any individual making less than $75,000 a year qualifies for a $1,400 payment, while married couples earning under $150,000 get $2,800. In addition, another $1,400 is getting sent out for every dependent that is claimed.

However, what about the people out there who have a dependent on the way? Will pregnant women get $1,400 for their unborn child? According to Fortune, which spoke to a Democratic aide - yes! Expectant parents who have a child in 2021 will be able to request a payment for the dependent, it just won't arrive until 2022 since they will need to claim the newborn using the Recovery Rebate Credit, which gets filed with their 2021 taxes. The same is true for any child adopted this year as well.

Since the IRS bases the stimulus checks on the latest tax return they have on record, the Recovery Rebate Credit allows filers to receive any payment they missed out on because the IRS didn't have up-to-date information on them. Many people have used or are using it when they file their 2020 taxes so that they can get the first and second stimulus checks, or any payments for dependents from those checks, if they were eligible and didn't receive them.
